EBUSSUUD EFENDÍ was born in Meteris (Metris), a village close to Istanbul. His real name being Mehmed İmadî, he is commonly known as HOCA ÇELEBI. His family originated from the İskilip district of Çorum and his father was Şeyh Yavsî Muhyiddin Mehmed. His maternal grandfather was Ali Kuşçu, a famous scholar of the era of Sultan Mehmed I (1451-1483). EBUSSUUD EFENDÍ received his first education from his private tutors Müeyyed-zade Abdurrahman Efendi and Karamanlı Seyyid Süleyman Efendi. After finishing his medresse education, he first taught in the Medresse of İshak Paşa in İnegöl; then he held several teaching positions in the Medresse of Davud Paşa, Medresse of Mahmud Paşa, Medresse of Çoban
