The İskender-name was written in 792/1389-1390. The work deals with the legends surrounding the life of the son of Philip of Macedón, Alexander the Great and the adventures of the latter. The Alexander legend is an often treated topic in Oriental literature. The first examples in F ÍRDEVS Í 'S (d. 411/1020) Şehname and GENCELI NİZAMÎ'S (d. 600/1203) Hamse are noteworthy. In Turkish literature, A HMEDÎ was the first, who elaborated the subject in a comprehensive form. The name of the poet appears in the work as follows: (p. 21) jylj iLI j5j <Jjn-k / (jj»-.! aLujIj .ilâ-. 36 n -. j In Turkey, thirty-two manuscripts of the İskender-name are known. Apart from this, catalogues and registers of libraries give evidence of the existence of numerous copies in other countries, which indicate the significance of the work and how widely it was spread.
