Paper: with watermarks; script: ta'lik; ink: black; headings are in red; gilded opening heading ( serlevha ) with dark blue decoration; all pages are framed by a gilded border; catchwords. Gül it bülbül (JJL j Jl) (Opening heading /serlevha) Begins: a 1İ3 <LI (jJjl <111 (lb) <111 pjl 3EH3LİI Ends: Jit 1 1, <olE tjlj ^jjL (101b) JHjJl Mesnevi by the 16 t h c. poet F AZLÎ (d. 971/1564). After his primary education F AZLÎ EFENDİ (opening heading/serlevha: lb), who is also known as KARA F AZLÎ in Turkish literature, joined the Halveti sheikh Zarifi Hasan Efendi. He received lessons from the famous contemporary Z ATÎ . He presented a kaside on the occasion of the circumcision feast of Şehzade Mehmed to Kanunî Sultan Süleyman (1520-1566); he became famous and was promoted to reisülkiittab (1562). He died two years later. Other works by the same author: 1. Divan, 2. Hüma ve hümayun, 3. Lehçetü 'l-esrar , 4. Nahlistan, 5. Gül ii bülbül. The work was composed in 1553 and presented to Şehzade Mustafa. The mesnevi was published in Germany under the title Gül u Bülbül d.i. Rose und Nachtigall by J. v. Hammer-Purgstall (Leipzig 1834). There are numerous copies of Gül ü bülbül. In the first place Istanbul University Library N° 3761 and Millet Kütüphanesi N° 1166 are to be mentioned.
