Y AHYA , a descendant of the Dukakin family of Albanian origin, was a devşirme. He was educated in the acemioğlan corps, became member of the Janissary corps and joined numerous campaigns. He received lessons from famous personalities of the epoch, as Kadrî Efendi, Fenarîzade Muhittin Çelebi and Kemal Paşazade; became an important poet of the Janissary corps and joined the campaigns to Vienna (1529), Hungary (1532) and Baghdad (1535) by Kanunî Sultan Süleyman (1520-1566). On the occasion of the strangling of Şehzade Mustafa he wrote his famous elegy, which is why he was dismissed by Rüstem Paşa. He was banished to the district of Zvornik. He died there. Gencine-i raz is part of his Hamse. The work begins with tevhid and na't, continues with a praising of Kanunî Sultan Süleyman (1520-1566) and is completed with fourty chapters. Y AHYA BEY offered his work to the ruler. This copy of the Gencine-i raz was made by Mustafa b. Abdü'1-mümin (104a) in 947/1540-1541 (104a).
