3. System of transliteration Tibetan texts are transcribed according to a modified and extended Wylie system with no recourse to hyphenation, the personal names are, however, highlighted by italics. Elsewhere, the Tibetan personal names are hyphenated following the method used by Dan Martin

6. The Sanskrit personal names are transcribed with diacritic transcription. Mongolian, Chinese and Manchu names and ranks are transcribed according to their Tibetan forms. Except the gter-shad, no distinction is made between the different types of shads. Long vowels (a, T, e, ö, it), indicated by a small 'a under the radical letter, are transcribed with a (e.g.: ~

a is transcribed with T, ° with Q).
