79 SUMMARY MODERNIZATION OF SPECIAUZED INFORMATION EM THE HUNGÁRIÁN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES The forward to this policy-setting article was provided by the editorial by Ferenc Márta, Secretary General of the Academy, entitled „Scientific information and the Academy" published in the same number of the periodical. This policy setting article discusses the methüds of the supply and organization of the information system of the social sciences and of basic research devolving on the Hungárián Academy of Sciences from the information supply of research on a national level. Its chapters are: 1. Research and information technology 2. Starting points and real possibilities 3. The data bases and computerized system of the Institute for Scientific Information (Philadelphia) 4. The ISI data bases and research management information 5. Facts and doubts conceming the ISI system 6. Conclusions. The publication discusses the precedents and conditions of the modemization of information at the Academy, the necessity of developing an information infrastructure, the combination of the Library of the Hungárián Academy of Sciences, its own services with its organizational tasks, the installation of data bases and services of the Institute for Scientific Information of Philadelphia in the Library of the Hungárián Academy of Sciences, the unfolding of scientometrics. Through nearly one decade the computerized services and scientometrics research were developed within the framework outlined in this programmatic article.
