Moravek Endre: Index acronymorum selectorum. Pars 6. Instituta oeconomica (A MTAK kiadványai 57. Budapest, 1968)

PEEFÁ CE This fascicle forms an additional part of the work entitled "Vocabularium abbreviaturarum bibliothecarii". It contains tbe abbreviations of the names of economic institutions /banks, important commercial agencies, factories etc./ on the one hand and on the other hand organizations such as the trade unions /more than 15 000 items/. This book is the result ef many years* collecting and processing work. In compiling it we used first of all the national and International collections of abbreviations of periodicals and printed catalogues of the largest libraries, but we alsó made use of different special publications and monographs. In collecting the material we aimed at completeness concerning the subject matter in question and we took into account the abbreviations of somé 50 languages. Our work being destined for use of librarians and as a documentation, we had to look for material alsó from the past, though this part of our oompilation could not be as systematic as that of the living material. As regards the method of treatment of the processing material the abbrevations are followed by full names and wherever it was practicable, the residence or country of the institútion and the letter symbol of the language the abbreviation comes from. Frequently occurrihg names of towns of residence are abbreviated too. In agreement with the practice of international dictionaries of abbreviations, in wrlting out sigla of Román characters, with the exception of particles the initials of every word were printed in capital letters. For several different abbreviations of the same institutions the full title has been given only once and at the variants a sign of equality points to the place where the full name is found. For abbreviations composed of the same letters but used in various forms /fully capitalized or partly with lower-case letters/ we had to give up the insertion of all variants. The whole material is given in two alphabetical orders, Romanic and Cyrillic. Since our book is mainly meant for use of Hungárián specialista we have followed the characteristics of the Hungárián language, consequently the letters ö and ü have been treated as independent letters in the Romanic alphabet after o and u . We suppose that this peculiarity of the alphabetic order won*t disturb the foreign users of this book. Diacritics have not been taken into consideration in the alphabetic order. In the Oyrillic alphabet abbreviations beginning by an Ucranian "i" or a Serbian "j" naturally f'orm separate groups. Since we could not list the same abbreviations in every section of our vocabulary we ask our readers to consult alsó the lists of related fields in case of necessity.
