UNDERSTANDING THE HUNGARIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES: A GUIDE Committee on Publishing Scientific Booths and Periodicals The Committee on Publishing Scientific Books and Periodicals has 12 members. Its Chairman and Secretary are elected by the General Assembly, while its members are delegated by the scientific sections of the Academy. Its task is to co-ordinate the Academy's publishing policy and to promote the efficient use of the resources available for this purpose. Chairman: LORÁND BENKŐ, O.M. Secretary: MIKLÓS HERNÁDI, C.Sc. THE PRESIDIUM OF THE ACADEMY Composed of the Academy's leading officials, of the chairmen of the sections and of members elected by the General Assembly, the Presidium assists in the preparation of the general assemblies, determines the number of new members to be elected for each of the scientific sections, and settles disputes, should they arise, between the scientific sections. Relying on proposals by the scientific sections, the Presidium makes decisions on awarding the Academy's prizes and other distinctions. It also acts as the advisory body of the President.
