The panels are divided into two or three compartments with alternating blue, mauve and gold grounds, decorated with ,chequered or scroll patterns. The large ornamental ,letters, painted in the same colours on contrasting grounds, are decorated by ,floral and ,zoomorphic motifs, in grisaille or colour, within the body of the letters and their spaces.
