our respect as a monument to the Academy's heroic past and a monumental document of one of the periods in the architectural history of Budapest. The vestibule, the staircase and the Assembly Hall comprise a remarkable ensemble even today. It provides a distinguished, befitting framework for the most important, representative events of the Academy. * The third floor of the building often played a part in the history of the Academy; its rooms with their overhead lighting, are pre-eminently suitable for exhibitions of pictures. Unfortunately, because of technical problems, the third floor cannot fulfil this function. 32
