The vestibule, the staircase and the Assembly Hall comprise a remarkable ensemble even today. It provides a distinguished, befitting framework for the most important, repre­sentative events of the Academy. * The third floor of the building often played a part in the history of the Acade­my; its rooms with their overhead lighting, are pre-eminently suitable for exhibi­tions of pictures. Unfortunately, because of technical problems, the third floor cannot fulfil this function. 32
