The Roots of the Northern Eurasian Peoples and Languages programme made an attempt at an interdisciplinary analysis of the Northern Eurasian linguistic area at the turn of the millennium.

While discussing the formation of the Hungarian language, the study will cover the following topics:

• the

axiomatisation

of

Budenzs approach and preconceptions based thereon,

• new

model of the formation of the Uralic proto-language,

• Hungarian

as a Paleosiberian language,

• Hungarian

as a Finno-Ugric language,

• Hungarian

as a Central-European language.

Proposals on further development are presented at the end (a new approach in the reconstruction of the Uralic proto-language; the need for genetic research into the Ugric, Samoyedic, Mordvin and Paleosiberian peoples; comparing Paleosiberian languages with Uralic and Altaic languages).

1. A módszerhez

Mivel a nyelvrokonság és a néprokonság nem azonos, egyetlen nép őstörténetét sem lehet pusztán nyelvészeti módszerekkel megrajzolni. Interdiszciplináris kutatásokra, különböző szakterületek közti szoros együttműködésre van szükség, egyebek között a jelenlegihez hasonló workshopokra.

Az

egyes szakterületek közti hatalmas tartalmi, módszertani, adatbázisbeli különbségek miatt sem nagyon várható el, hogy egy kutató valamennyi érintett tudományág szakirodalmát a kellő mélységig ismerje.
