Abstract

Nyögér, the settlement in Vas County to the east of Sárvár, is the birthplace of József Németh, the retired director of Zala County museums. This was the reason why this study is included in the present volume of Göcseji Museum. The settlement and its surroundings are famous for that as in Vas County one can find perhaps the most sacred roadside memorials - they can be seen along the roads in some places only a few hundred meters from each other. These were erected mostly at the turn of 19lh-20lh centuries. These phenomena are explored in the article presenting an overview of folk religion of Nyögér, used in an expanded geographic and canonical sense, so the results of the research come from the whole area of the parish of Nyögér.
