Gyimesi Endre: Németh József 80 éves

24 Gyimesi Endre Abstract József Németh, excellent culture historian, retired county museum director, honorary citizen of Zalaegerszeg has recently celebrated his 80th birthday. This study is meant to overview the most important stages of his life and career, his rich and varied scientific work on the occasion of this illustrious anniversary. He was born in Nyőgér, Vas County and after his graduation from university he settled down in Zala County where he worked as a teacher and student hostel supervisor, later from 1960 he worked in the Cultural Department of Zala County Council and from 1972 until his retirement he was the director of the county museum. Beside the first permanent and a number of highly successful temporary exhibitions he played a significant role in establishing and developing the Göcsej Village Museum, in the enrichment of a variety of collections, training museum experts, organising scientific life while he himself delivered plenty of lectures and published many works. It was him who launched several publication series, founded magazines, and wrote countless volumes of primary importance on local history and history of literature. (The bibliography following the career profile provides a wide selection.) Although he finished working in the museum after 2004 he is still a frequent visitor to the institution and helps younger colleagues with his experience and advice. On the occasion of his birthday besides wishing him happiness and good health we also wish that he continue his valued work for many years to come to the benefit of us all, to Zalaegerszeg, to Zala County and to the entire profession.
