Bilkei Irén: Szentgrót és birtokosai a középkorban
Szentgrót és birtokosai a középkorban 145 Abstract The essay works the history of the actual Zalaszentgrót’s predecessor settlement based in the data found in the charts. The settlement of Szentgrót was founded in the 13th century by a member from the aristocratic Tűrje gens. This gens built the fortress of Szentgrót in the times before the Tatar invasion. During the reign of the House of the Árpáds, the family gave count palatínus and prelates to the country. From the beginning of the House of Anjou’s reign their descendants, who were known as the Szentgróti family still were in possession of the settlement, which have been named as a market town (oppidum) that also had a small market. In the 15th century the family Hagymási de Berekszó through a marriage became the landowner of the fortress and the settlement in the following centuries. In the late Middle Ages, both the fortress and the market town was the scenario of masterfulnesses in many times. The member of the Szentgróti family in the late Middle Ages didn't held important offices in the Kingdom, they only reached the sub governor office in the county. They lands quantity didn’t increase nor through the familiaritas nor the marriages. The family Hagymási from the county of Temes was familiáris of the Szapolyai family, and through this relationship they could reach more important offices for the middle nobility. Probably it became even more important for the owners of Szentgrót the fortress’s possession - which ended in the hands of the family Batthyány in the 17th century - what defined their place in the Medieval and Early Modern age in the county of Zala.
