The activity of the bombers of the American 15th Air Force over the oil fields in Zala county during World War II Although Hungary seemed to be one of the peaceful areas in Europe in 1943, threatening signs concerning the future had already been appearing in the country. Due to the events having taken an unexpected turn in the war and the approach of the Allies, Hungary was in danger to become the theatre of war. Unfortunately, this became true soon, because the air raids of the Allied - American and British - heavy bombers began early as from the summer of 1943 into the air space of Hungary. Shortly after Hungary’s German occupation in 1944, the country's suffering began and lasted for more than a year. Serious damage was caused firstly by the bombs dropped from the air, then by the advancing Soviet troops. In this study the author records about the history concerning the air activity of the Hungarian-American Oil Industry Co.’s oil fields in South-Zala county, together with the presentation of the opposing parties.
