HAVASI BÁLINT-BUSZNYÁK JÁNOS: A zalaszántói őskori tumulusok felmérésének legújabb eredményei

The most recent results of the measuring of the prehistoric tumuli at Zalaszántó Zalaszántó lays in Western Hungary, in the middle of the Keszthely Mountains, near the border between Zala and Veszprém county (Fig 13). The barrow field is known since 1861, it is situated northeast from the village. Former literature and maps contain various numbers of mounts (Fig 1). On the basis of the few excavations, the barrows were raised in the Early Iron Age (Ha C-D). The field survey of the mounds was made in the fall of 2008, followed by GIS elaboration and fabrication of a site register. Considering the extent of the territory, the high number of points and the reachable tools, GPS field measuring was chosen. The aimed task: the re-measuring of the mounds as well as our own requirements demanded accurate measuring (sub metric), so we used a special DGPS method. Trimble GcoXH device was applied to field measuring and the needed correction data was provided by the Georgikon GNSS Base Station in Keszthely (http://gnss.georgikon.hu), which is a Trimble NctR5 triband receiver (GPS/GLONASS/L2CL5). It has an IP address, interna] NTRIP server, FTP server and NTRIP Caster. The measuring frequency is 1,2,5,10 Hz, the measuring accuracy is 5mm+(),5ppm v. (Fig 4-8). All needs of the university and Southwest Transdanubia (more than 10000 km 2 ) can be supported by the Georgikon Base, it has wide range of online/offline services (RTK 2.1, 2.3, 3.0, RAW, DGPS, CMR, CMR+ and DAT, RINEX.) During the field research the EOV (HUNGARIAN PROJECTION SYSTEM) coordinates of the mound's centre was recorded with the number of the feature, its height, diameter, its state (disturbing), and the number of trees on the barrow. We took digital pictures, too. The data of the fieldwork was processed by the ESRI Arcgis 9.2 software, and was set up into a personal geodatabase. On the basis of the results, 288 mounds were examined, 13 are pending (Fig 21). 58 barrows showed up traces of disturbance or robbery. The diameter varies between 3 and 45 meters, the height is between 0,5 and 10 meters (Fig 12). Translated by Zoltán Fullár
