Középső rézkori települések Zalaegerszeg-Andráshida, Gébárti-tó (II) lelőhelyen 61 Middle Copper Age settlements at Zalaegerszeg-Andráshida, Gébárti tó (IL): preliminary results Excavations at Zalaegerszeg-Andráshida, Gébárti-tó (II). yielded significant results in the research of Middle Copper Age in Transdanubia, in particular for Zala county. Rescue excavations prior to the construction of the by pass road No 76 made it possible to excavate an extensive area. Since the assessment of the excavated material is still in progress, the aim of this paper is to provide a preliminary sketch of the settlement features and main vessel types. The earliest Copper Age is represented by the third phase of the Lengyel culture but only two pits and some sherds belong to this period. The most important period of the settlement is represented by the Balaton-Lasinja culture. In turn apart from post holes and refuse pits, foundations of houses and remains of farm buildings were observed. Since the foundations of houses crosscut each other, two phases of settlement were identified in the Balaton-Lasinja phase. During the earlier phase of the settlement Houses 1/a, 3 and 4 were established (Fig. 14). After this period, Houses 1/b, 2 and 5 were established (Fig. 14). The outlines of the buildings indicate that in each phase of the settlement two houses and one farm building stood at the same time, in close proximity. When a new building was erected it was placed only a few metres away from the previous one. The buildings were irregularly surrounded by pits of different functions (clay pits, refuse pits). Apart from the settlement features, two cremated burials were also revealed that shed light on the burial habits of the Balaton-Lasinja community. The main vessel types of Balaton-Lasinja culture revealed are conical and biconical bowls with inverted rims, jugs, cups, pedestalled bowls, squat vessels, strainers and amphorae. The excavation also revealed clay spoons, spindle whorls and miniature vessels. The majority of clay objects are tempered with micaceous sand. Grog and crushed pebble tempering also appear, rom analogies to the excavated material, the settlement can be dated to the classical phase of the Balaton-Lasinja culture. The following, Protoboleráz horizon, is represented only by few features although they yielded considerable material such as handled cups with furrowstitch decoration. Translated by: Attila Kreiter
