S. Lackovits Emőke: Krisztus-ábrázolások a veszprémi Laczkó Dezső Múzeum Néprajzi Gyűjteményében. I. A szenvedő Krisztus megjelenítése

pictures and a statue composition are kept in the Museum. The picture makes Christ's suffering perceptible by means of the instruments of torture. The purpose of the statue composition is similar. This is known as a Golgotha, it served as a domestic altar, and by transfer it signified the scene of the crucifixion itself. Valuable parallels are known from the region of Freiburg (Longinus-Kreuz, Arma Christi Kreuz), but it also occurs as open air statues in western and southern Transdanubia. The third picture shows the Holy Sepulchre with the implements of torture and the Holy Sacrament, indicating the redemption and salvation springing from the agonising death of the Lord. A newer picture type, though, shows Jesus as a child sleeping on the cross with the Arma Christi. The roots of the 17 th18 th century prototype of this depiction are to be sought in the Middle Ages. The description of the five stations of the suffering of Christ can be read in the four Gospels. The pictures and statues kept in the Museum, in a similar way to their prototypes and parallels, are not lacking in theatricality, they are perceptibly linked to the Baroque and the concepts inspired by the „holy theatre" (theatrum sacrum). Oral representations were realised in archaic prayers. 144
