This paper presents the new restoration of two previously restored Roman period silicate artefacts: a terra sigillata and a glass bowl. The sigillata had earlier been stuck together and filled out, but neither the method nor the material were suitable. After a thorough re-cleansing with solvent, this author first of all built up the object from the fragments with the help of self-adhesive strips, so that just a minimum amount of adhesive material (methacrylate copolymer) had to be applied by means of absorption. Instead of the wax generally used, an isolated gypsum negative was produced. The new fill-out material is modelling gypsum containing acrylic dispersion earth colour. First of all, a primer with an acrylate bonding agent (Gesso) was applied to the jointing surfaces; the damaged, worn break surfaces had to be filled out, or "grouted." The original ceramic surface was temporarily protected with a flexible film coating. The acrylic tempera colouring for the fill out sections was applied using a compressed air retouching gun. The second section of the paper presents the possible means of production (reconstructed) and new restoration of the second object, a particularly valu1 GABLER - PALÁGYI 1989. 123. 2 Poli-vinil-butiral alkoholos, vagy acetonos oldata. This object had been expertly cleaned and conserved in 1978, but the fill out sections dating from that time had become discoloured and deformed. Dichloromethane packing was applied for the removal of the adhesive and the residual fill out material. With the method also used for the sigillata bowl, the object was first of all built up from its fragments, then a minimal amount of dilute epoxy-resin adhesive material was applied between the break surfaces using capillary absorption. In order to replace the missing sections, the positive of the external surface of the missing parts was moulded from beeswax, as a negative could not be taken due to the asymmetry of the object. A silicon negative was taken from the wax fill out sections. Because of the tight arc of the body of rotation, it was not possible to produce the fill out section by filling in the gap between two negatives. For this reason, the Viapal H 210 BS polyester moulding resin was applied from inside in thin layers, in several stages. Protective boxes have been produced from polystyrene for both artefacts, to ensure safe transportation and storage for them. NEW RESTORATION OF TERRA SIGILLATA AND GLASS BOWL 200
