Der Zwerg- und Schwarzhalstaucher überwintert manchmal an den nicht eingefrorenen Kanälen. Während der Rosapelikan seit Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts beim Balaton nicht mehr brütet und sich seit dieser Zeit auch nur sehr einzeln zeigt, ist der Kormoran ein neuer Ankömmling. Früher durchzog er auch This is the seventh, final part of a series of studies written on the water-fow of Lake Balaton. The present paper comprises the author's unpublished observations made between 1946 and 1971, together with the pertaining data of his colleagues and those found in sporadic literature. In the environs of Lake Balaton three species of divers and four species of grebes (Podiceps) occur, the breeding of the latter has even been established, though the Red-necked Grebe hatches eggs only sporadically and its passage is not quite regular. Since 1950 the stock of the Great Crested Grebe has much decreased owing partly to the increased water traffic on the lake and partly to several points of the lake becoming unfit for breeding. The White Pelican ceased to breed on Lake Balaton far back in the beginning of the 19th century, ever since it has been a rather rare visitor to the lake. The Cormorant, on the other hand, is a recent incomer. Earlier, it passed across Lake Balaton but in 1947 it settled at Little Balaton in that year when its colony had been devastated on River Danube. Since the number of breeding pairs is on the increase, although, owing to its excrement killing off the trees on which they build nests, it is expected that their settlement will not be of long standing.
