Bronzkor a Nyugat-Dunántúlon - P. I. Maclaen - J. G. Mcdonell: New archaeo metrical investigations of the bronzes in the Carpathian Basin. Újabb természettudományos adatok a Kárpát-medencei bronzok összetételéről

these are mounted in a transparent low viscosity cold-setting resin in conjunction with a segment of cobalt wire used as a standard for later chemical analysis. Once mounted in the resin the samples are prepared using standard metallographic tecliniques including grinding polishing and etching. Sample polishing is conducted on a Beuhler MiniMet system using a protocol specially developed for these alloys. The advantage of this automatic system is that all samples are prepared to the same standard, removing any problems caused by variation in preparation technique. The material is then examined initially using optical microscopy in both the etched and unetched conditions. Of the standard etchants available ammonium hydroxide / hydrogen peroxide was found to provide the most satisfactoiy results.
