This was done by staff of the Zoology Department at the Dániel Berzsenyi Teachers' Training College (today the Dániel Berzsenyi College) in Szombathely (SZINETÁR and GYURÁCZ 1993). Previously there had been practically no information available on the invertebrate zoological assets of the area, apart from the large butterflies and moths, although more was known about the vertebrate fauna. A Csörnöc Valley Nature-Protection Research Camp is held every year outside Szarvaskend, to gather data and help imbue young people with attitudes conducive to nature protection (BÁNHiDi 1996a; GYURÁCZ 1997a).
