The research referred to in this article was carried out at the section of the main road 86 by-passing the village of Vát in connection with the preventive archaeological research. The surface of the research reached deep into the alluvium of the Hosszú-víz brook cutting the area from north-west to the south-east. We could carry out undisturbed core drillings and along with the sampletaking from the neighbouring hills we could draft the layer structure of the area. We carried out sedimentary geology, geochemical and paleo-botanical research on the core samples in order to reconstruct the eco-historical background of the surrounding areas. Our examinations undermined the already known environmental changes - taking place in the course of human settlement - through which we were successful in showing local characteristics. Furthermore, we could answer the guestion regarding stratigraphy arising at the archaeological excavation. 101
