SAVARIA AVAS MEGYEI MÚZEUMOK ÉRTESÍTŐJE, 30 Szombathely, 2006 A SZOMBATHELYI SZILY JÁNOS UTCÁBAN FELTÁRT FALFESTMÉNYLELET ÖSSZEÁLLÍTÁSA ÉS ELMÉLETI REKONSTRUKCIÓJA Analógiák és analízisek KUROVSZKY Zsófia H-1016 Budapest, Bérc u. 5., Hungary E-mail: kurovszkyzsofia@dpg.hu ASSEMBLY AND THEORETICAL RECONSTRUCTION OF THE WALL-PAINTING FIND MADE IN SZILY JÁNOS UTCA, SZOMBATHELY Analogies and analyses During excavations carried out in habited areas, towns, often only apart of finding complexes came to light according to modern built in or the building investment area. Wall-painting find, lifted out with the latter described limit, usually not enough to form a conception of the ancient room. At the same time the techniques, the decoration and the motifs of certain panels, panel-pictures, at best some of the dimensions reconstructable without large assembled surfaces. The wall-painting fragments excavated in 2000 at Szily János и. 19., Szombathely. They have strongly mixed: arched fragments from the vault and plain ones from the sidewalk with connecting stucco rim of simple elements both came to light from a levelling layer. The finding material afforded possibility to collect knowledge from the building structures and heating to the decoration. Owing to this, surprisingly well outlineable the appearance of the high quality decorated room(s). In 2003—4 during the rendering and assembling the fragments cleared the find is only a part of the painted plaster of an ancient room with impressive dimensions. However, during the restitution no continuous, connecting surface of either vault, stucco or sidewall fragments could befitted, it is presumable that the two groups belonged to the same room. The motifs, the working out of painting, the quality of used painting techniques are equal. Scientific examinations gave the basis for clearing up the question. It was possible form a conception of the painting of the room(s) with the help of less fitted surfaces and analogies. The hypothetical reconstructions of details of certain panels could be managed with 1:1 explanatory drawings of the painted surfaces containing the motifs, the colours and direction 455
