Nagy, Barnabás–Szövényi, Gergely: Orthopteroid insects of Őrség Landscape Conservation Area (Western Hungary)

SA VARIA, 24/2 (Pars historico-naturalis) large material. It is probably M. a. alpina, but the area of the two other species (M. irena, M. carinthiaca too) are - according to NADIG (1989) - not more than 50-70 km. In any case, Őrség is the second occurrence of Miramella in Hungary. Its population living here might be very restricted; we captured here only two adults alone with some small larvae during several years. The population of M a. alpina in the Kőszeg Mts. (60 km north from the őrség) is - in spite of the very scattered distribution of the habitats - relatively dense with a population density up to 1-2/m

. Theoretically, the population of Miramella in Őrség may need some kind of protection, however, we do not know the population size accurately nor its ecological barriers here. Based on our experiences in the Kőszeg Mts., the sylviculture generally is not harmful to the Miramella populations and even the new clearings, reforestations, forest glades, etc. being rich in Rubus spp. represent suitable habitats for this species.
