DISCUSSION The studied area (őrség), with the 46 Orthoptera species recorded during the sporadic collection between 1982-1997, can be considered as relatively poor in this respect, in comparison with other regions of Hungary (Tables 1-2.). We think that the low species number is due not only to the scanty or missing collectingwork in August and September, which is the main period for the adult Orthoptera in this region. Another reason for the relative low species number is the high percentage of forested area and the sporadic occurrence of sunny, xeric habitats. In spite of this fact, the Orthoptera species presented here should be considered as a basic Orthoptera fauna to this region. The Orthoptera fauna detected during the investigations between 1982-1997 are represented by 17 tettigoniids, 3 gryllids and 26 acridids. Species of other orthopteroids (Mantodea, Blattodea) and of Dermaptera were also listed here, however, collections were sporadic related to this orders (Table 3.). The overwhelming majority of the species detected in Őrség generally occurs in suitable habitats in 17
