SAYARIA A VAS MEGYEI MÚZEUMOK ÉRTESÍTŐJE (1996) Szombathely 23/2 (Pars historico-naturalis) 1996 Natural History of Őrség Landscape Conservation Area, 1996 CURCULIONOIDEA (COLEOPTERA) OF ŐRSÉG LANDSCAPE CONSERVATION AREA Attila PODLUSSÁNY ' Curculionoidea (Coleoptera) of Órség Landscape Conservation Area — The Curculionoidea fauna of Őrség was unknown twenty years ago. Between 1978 and 1988, in the research programme „Az Alpokalja Természeti Képe" {„The Natural History of Praenoricum"), systematic collectings were performed by Hungarian amateur research workers under Ernő HORVÁTH 's guidance (Savaria Museum, Szombathely). Between 1993 and 1994 the collectings were continued by the research workers of Savaria Museum. In the territory of őrség 435 species of the superfamily Curculionoidea have been found. Twenty-eight species are proved to be new for the Hungarian fauna. INTRODUCTION The territory of Őrség was a blank area on the faunal map of Hungary when our systematic collecting activity began in 1978. A research program, named as „Az Alpokalja Természeti Képe - The Natural History of Praenoricum" started under the organization of Savaria Museum (Szombathely), under the late Ernő HORVÁTH'S guidance. An amateur research group, a handful of enthusiasts collected insects systematically in the territory of Őrség. Professional entomologists, too, have a share in the elaboration of the collected material. There are no previous publications concerning to the Curculionoidea fauna of őrség, consequently, all data are firstly published in the present work. A few earlier collections were made at Rábagyarmat, 15.07.1936, by Vilmos SZÉKESSY; at Szőce, 15.11.1961, by Edit HÁMORI, Sebestyén ENDRŐDY-YOUNGA, Zoltán KASZAB, Tamás Pócs and at Szakonyfalu, 24.06.1960, by József ERDŐS, and 05.06.1968, by Sándor HORVATOVICH. Curculionoid beetles are herbivorous, developing in the root, stem, flower and fruit of various plants, in the living or dead branches of trees, in leaf-litter.
