Víg, Károly–Rozner, István: Leaf beetle fauna of Őrség (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae sensu lato)
SAVARIA A VAS MEGYEI MÚZEUMOK ÉRTESÍTŐJE (1996) Szombathely 23/2 (Pars historico-naturalis) 1996 Natural History of Őrség Landscape Conservation Area, 1996 LEAF BEETLE FAUNA OF ŐRSÉG (COLEOPTERA: CHRYSOMELIDAE sensu lato) Károly VÍG ' — István ROZNER 2 Leaf beetle fauna of Órség (Coleoptera: Chrysomelldae sensu lato) — Locality data of 223 leaf beetle species collected in the territory of Őrség Landscape Conservation Area (Western Hungary) is presented. Two species, Chrysolina eurina (Frivaldszky, 1883) and Oulema duftschmidi (Redtenbacher, 1874) are reported from Hungary for the first time. INTRODUCTION From coleopterological point of view the territory of őrség was a „white spot" on the faunistical map of Hungary. The first collecting trip on the territory of Órség was made by János PÁVEL in 1890 (ABAFI AIGNER, 1901). Only one specimen of Cryptocephalus moraei (Linnaeus, 1758) from Szentgotthárd could be found up in the material collected by him. A few additional earlier random collections were made at Szt. Gothárd (=Szentgotthárd) by Géza HORVÁTH, at Őriszentpéter by Vilmos KOLOSVÁRY, at Rábagyarmat by Vilmos SZÉKESSY, at Szőce by Edit HÁMORI, Sebestyén ENDRŐDY-YOUNGA, Zoltán KASZAB, Tamás Pócs and at Szakonyfalu by József ERDŐS, and later by Sándor HORVATOVICH and Jenő PAPP. József TRÄGER as teacher of biology worked for the secondary school of Szentgotthárd in the 1930s and 1940s. In the course of two decades he collected beetles on the outskirts of the town (VAKARCS, 1939). Unfortunately, we have no information about his collection; probably it was destroyed after the Second World War. Considering these facts, it is not surprising that no comprehensive study on the leaf beetle fauna of Őrség has been published yet. Only scattered data can be found in the literature (CSIKI, 1953; KASZAB, 1962; ROZNER, 1987, 1994; VIG, 1991). In our times the faunistic and floristic exploration of the western part of Transdanubia were organized by the late Ernő HORVÁTH between 1976 and 1990. In the course of the collecting program, called „The Natural History of Praenoricum", mostly amateur entomologist, zoologists and botanists worked on the 1 Savaria Múzeum, H-9700 Szombathely, Kisfaludy S. u. 9., Hungary 2 H-l 116 Budapest, Tétényi út 129., Hungary Vig, K.
