KUSTÁRÁGNES-SKULTÉTY GYULA: A BENEPUSZTAI HONFOGLALÁS-KORI FÉRFI KOPONYAREKONSTRUKCIÓJA SKULL RECONSTRUCTION OF THE BENEPUSZTA MAN OF THE PERIOD OF THE HUNGARIAN CONQUEST Knowing the anatomy of the face, any skull in good state of preservation may be a subject of a face reconstruction from a scientific point of wiew, although the applied method closely connects sculpture, too. The method of face reconstruction used by us is based on the work of Kollmann and Gerasimow, improved by Gyula Skultéty. Using Skultéty's method masticatory and mimic muscles - according to their visible insertion and adhesion points on the bones - can be rebuilt on the skull with anatomic correctness. The thickness of the soft parts can be deduced from the bone surface. The skull of the aged man of the period of the Hungarian conquest, examined and reconstructed by us, came to light in summer 1834 at Benepuszta, accompanied by ample find material. Both virile and feminine characteristics can be observed on the skull of turanide type. Plumstone shaped symbolic trepanations can be seen on the skullcap and the right parietal bone. The face reconstructed on the basis of the skull is broad and flat. The bridge of the nose is slightly convex, the tip of the nose is sharp and tends downwards. The lips are medium fleshy, the eyeridges are bulky and protruded. The character of the face is strongly influenced by the minime wrinkles and subcutaneous fat accumulation getting expressed in elderly.
