and in consequence of this its responses or behaviour to the environmental stresses may be change. It would be advisable to transplant communities and observe the physiological and structural changes within the community. It is no doubt that there are many methodical problem, for example in the exact interpretation of the effects of the "ecological background" {Juhász-Nagy 1979), but the neglection of the research of the supraindividual levels - the change of the pattern of the populations etc. - are regrettable. We agree with the opinion of Juhász-Nagy (1979) that the possibilities are given by synmorphology are unexploited. Nowadays the most important problem of the ecology is the degradation. The main questions are the following; how can we interpret the dynamical processes of the communities in time and space, and how can we recognize the initial phases of the degradation? The possibilities could be the following; 1. It may be necessary to develop a degradation-typology, using the indicatorcommunities, on the basis of synmorphology. 2. We have to do further examinations about the sociability of lichen taxa living in polluted areas. 3. It is important to know better about the life-strategy relationships of the lichen species or the communities in connection with the environmental changes. 4. The only accurate coenological sampling method is the use of transparent sheets and tracing the outline of the thalli. The other method could be the photocomputation {Szőcs 1979). 5. The weight-vector analysis, which was elaborated by the author (1973), is suitable to the interpretation of the changes of the pattern during the succession.
