Az Alpokalja természeti képe közlemények 2. (Praenorica - Folia historico-naturalia. Szombathely, 1987)
Preface During the past decades the home nature and regional research has quickened. The unfavourable changes, the harmful processes breaking balance and harmony, all due to the industrial civilization, have made us realize that we must pay more and more attention to get to know, to protect, to develop our environment and to utilize it rationally. Out of this complex set of tasks, a considerable share has been and is taken by the experts specialized to sciences in the museums. The Department of Sciences in the Savaria Museum, having long traditions, has been organizing the regional research project 'The Natural View of the Subalpine Region' since 1976. The professional results of this research are shown in different documentary collections in the museums, in studies, papers and in surveying-summerizing publications. The first conference for those participating in the project was organized in 1981, its subject-matter was published in a booklet entitled The NaÍH r S;i_ v i ew _2 f _Í^É_§ u ^SíE i SE_ R 2Si°5_5°iIi_92í25™i2§íi 0 5S 12Z§r 1981. As the enthusiasm and commitment of those participating in the project had not drooped, the year 1984 could already see the second conference for experts carrying on research work in West-Transdanubian region in the village of Velem. The present volume, though published rather late because of different reasons, embraces the subject-matter if this conference, aiming to help to g<=t to know the geohistory, the flora and fauna of our environment even better. We can but hope that this project, having already been going on for several decades, can be carried on in spite of the more difficult financial circumstances and that the necessary rationalizations will bring about a renewal both in content and in methods, enriching our knowledge. In the spirit of these reflections and intentions the Direction of the Museums in Vas County publishes the present new original volume by the Department of Sciences of the Savaria Museum with the new title of PRAENORICA FOLIA HISTORICO-NATURALIA which is an organic continuation of the above mentioned publication, hoping that it will serve as a good aid to get to know our West-Transdanubian region much better, to make our values a public property and to connect this research project with the home and international scientific activity.
