1 New nocturnal Macrolepidoptera species in the fauna of Sopron and its vicinity (Lepidoptera: Macroheterocera) — Approximately 800 nocturnal Macrolepidoptera species have been recorded from Sopron and its vicinity. The majority of the material is from forestry and agricultural light traps, while several rarities have been found during personal collecting by András AMBRUS between 1978 and 1998. The majority of Lepidoptera records from Sopron was published in the following papers: KOVÁCS (1953, 1956), MÉSZÁROS et al. (1983), LESKÓ & AMBRUS (1998), BENEDEK et al. (2002). This publication features 31 new species to the Macroheterocera fauna of Sopron and its vicinity based mostly on recent records collected by the authors and his colleagues. Most species are very rare or could not be collected by lighting, but by other methods such as diurnal netting (Hemaris tityus, Callistege mi), caterpillar recording (Eriogaster lanestris, Eriogaster catax, Shargacucullia gozmanyi) or sugar baiting (Mormo maura). Two species are a result of present day dispersion (Antheraea yamamai, Polyphaenis sericata), while new migrant species have also been recorded during the present survey (Helicoverpa armigera, Heliothis peltigera). The faunistical data are summarized in Table 1, with the geographical coordinates of the localities.
