Hence we must consider this goddess of Illyrian origin, whose cult (like that of the equally mystic god Laburus) supplanted tlhe cult of Neptunus and others. — The commercial relations between Savaria and Emona have been known to us. (5.) Both towns were situated on important trade-routes. But up to now it was not known, that a whole colony from Emona, probably merchants, were dwelling in Savaria. 1, Altar in veneration of Jupiter. Inscription: see Hungárián text. Material: sandstone. Altar in veneration of Mercurius. (II.) Inscription: see Hungárián text. The altar was erected by the decurion and aedil of Savaria, he being at the same time praefectus fabrorum et centonarioram. The guild of the artiisans and tentcloth-makers förmed also a kind of voluntary fire-brigade. Their elected chief, the prefect, was however not an artisan, but somé distinguished official of the municipality. (6.) We find hím mentioned also elsewhere in Savaria. (7.) It was a custom in the first century oíf the empire to settle discharged soldiers, who have served their time. The successors of Augustus liked to quarter them in the provinces; and especially the emperor Claudius employed for the coloniisatíon of Savaria soldiers of the légion XIV. Appollinaris, then stationing in Carnuntum. Till the middle of the century the légion consísted only of Italian natives. (8.) Such a colonist commg from Milan, was also Naevius, the only deductitius in Savaria, whose name we know. — Limestone, broken ín 8 pieces. Height: 174 cms. Breadth: 82 cms. Thickness: 27 cms. Age: second half of tne I. century. — Description: shíeld framed in with lines, and covered with writing sunk into the stcne; in the upper part, in a three-pointed shíeld a Medusa head. Aurelius erected thís monument for himself and a soldíer of the XIV. légion gemina, who was a native of Emona. — Limestone, composed of several pieces, Height: 58 cms. Breadth: 70 cms.
