TÖRTÉNELEM - Tolnay Gábor: Az ellátatlanok gondozása Dévaványán a két világháború között

Gábor Tolnay: Charity Activities at Dévaványa between the Two World Wars Poverty relief has long traditions at the village of Dévaványa. The leadership of the community, however, set up certain conditions, and only those willing to do some service to the community were entitled to receive support. This was understood and accepted by the people of Dévaványa. In order to provide some relief to those living in poverty and deprivation between the two World Wars, a grain crop reserve fund was set up in 1922. The mission of the savings bank was to lend wheat and other grain crop to people in need. People received grain crop for food and for agricultural purposes. Those who were unwilling to work did not receive any such support. Another form of charity was operating a welfare organization for disabled servicemen and their relatives. The relatives of servicemen who had been killed in the war were eligible if they were not disabled but had no other source of income.
