Márta Magyari: Sacral Textiles - Communion Cloths for Blessing the Food at Easter A special segment of using textiles in rural communities has been the waycommunion cloths are applied at blessing the food at Easter. These cloths are used to cover the milk bread and passover cake taken to the church for blessing. This special object, as observed, shows a remarkable variety even in a relatively small geographical area. Changes in the ornamentation of the communion cloths, the reduction of their sizes all provide and insight into the depths of ancient traditions. The reduction of the size of the cloths is a consequence of the reduction of the quantity of food offered for blessing. The quantity of food taken to the church has been radically reduced, reflecting the far-reaching changes that have taken place in the religious life of the Greek Catholic communities over the past few decades.
