Néprajz - Ratkó Lujza: Táncviseletek a Nyíregyháza környéki tirpákoknál Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg megye népviseletei. Viselettörténeti sorozat iI.

Táncviseletek a Nyíregyháza környéki tirpákoknál serious support came from old photographs kept in the museum. Although they do not depict dance costumes, still they give us a general picture on the clothing of the Tirpaks in the early 20th century. Two most important events of the Tirpák youth were the weekly, frequently spontaneous bursza and the ball that took place rarely and demanded a more serious organisational work. Different character of these two dancing parties is marked also by the clothing: they wore a costume considered to be holiday wear for the bursza on Sunday afternoons. However, it was a simpler clothing than the one worn by the girls at the ball that was considered to be a larger event. Lads’ dance costumes-similarly to their everyday clothing-were less varied. On the basis of the sources we can trace changes in the dancing costumes in the first half of the 20th century. This study will hopefully not only enrich the special literature on costumes, but at the same time will provide useful practical knowledge, e.g. for the folk dance assemblages.
