New data on the Avarian Age sites of Hajdú-Bihar County I

Some notes on the Early Avarian Age history of the region

No summarising works on the Avarian Age history of Hajdú-Bihar County have been published yet, though several “case studies” were published. From the 1970s to the mid-1980s several settlement monographs were written and most of them included the history of the Avarian Age preceding the Hungarian Conquest. Authors of the town monographs could not write detailed histories of the settlements because they had at their disposal only few authentic find assemblages, the records on which-in many cases-were incomplete. So they rather showed the general tendencies and used local Avarian material only as illustration.

During the two-decade period that passed since the completion of the Avarian Age sites’ catalogue (adam 2002) we observe a kind of information boom (comparing to the previous period).
