h century history of Transylvania in the Transylvania trilogy. In his novel, the writer used authentic archival data naturally coloured with literary fantasy. One of the colours in the story is provided by the three "enchanting" witches. In my study I try to reveal how Kata Iffju, Kata Török and Anna Báthory got to the court. Why they had to lose their properties and what contrivances they practised to entice princes. Móricz was well acquainted with folk beliefs and he picturesquely described them in his marvellous novel.
