István Vörös: Árpád Age animal bone finds from the comitat centre Szabolcs

Árpád Age animal bones from Szabolcs - Summary ­The earthwork of Szabolcs and its surroundings were excavated by Péter Né­meth (Jósa András Museum, Nyíregyháza) in 1969 as a part of central research project. Archaeological material found here can be dated to the early Árpád Age, i.e. to the 10-12th с (NÉMETH 1973.). During the excavations animal bones from the Árpád Age were collected from three spots: Szabolcs, Földvár 1969 (cut of the entrenchment), Szabolcs, Ált. Iskola 1975 (fireplace), Szabolcs, Ref.Parókia 1975/77 (cemetery, settlement). The determined species are the following: cattle, sheep, pig, horse, dog, hen, goose, bison, red deer, roe deer, wild-boar, catfish and carp (Table The animal bone material - except for the dog and roe deer - is garbage from kitchen and buthcher'stall accumulated at a so-called secondary place. There were animals of different types among the cattle, but same types of sheep, pig, horse stock (the parameters of bones see in Table 4.). The dog skeleton found in a pit above and near grave 14.
