The dry-plate patent of the Lumière brothers has revolutionized photography. The production raised rapidly from 1907, also with coloured pictures. Another popular hobby of the century's turn was travelling: discovering off societies. These both hobbies were featuring the life of the French banker Albert Kahn. He decided to make a fellowship for young people to inspire them to travel, to get acquainted to different worlds and cultures, thus getting more educated and more tolerant. He intended to breed a highbrow and moral elite to be able to guide France towards a better future. Early 1908 he started a journey around the world to take photos and films about mankind. So he started to found his Planet Archive with the help of a geographer, photographs, all together of 15 people. His helpers photographed and filmed remarkable, „nationally" characteristic figures, costumes and buildings. Nowadays Planet Archive includes more than 72.000 photos and 3.500 meter movies around 48 countries. The operator of the Archive visited also the Balkan. During their second journey - on 24th April 1913 — they shot 11 pieces 9x13 cm photos in Budapest and 7 pieces in Rákospalota and the citizens of both. Among others the Museum of Applied Arts, Vajdahunyad Castle in the City Park and of course the Danube branch with the view of the Royal Castle, the Chainbridge and the former Elisabeth Bridge. While the coloured glass photos were sold all over France, they were rarities to be found in Hungary. Only the richest Hungarian families were contemporarily able to take photos of the mentioned art, mostly portraits. Today The Planet Archive and the complete heritage of Albert Kahn are attended by the Albert Kahn County Councils' Museum in Boulogne Billancourt and expect it's visitors with regular exhibitions of the Archive.
