In 2006 at the Rádpuszta-Temetőalja-dűlő site belonging to Balatonlelle, during the preliminary excavations connected to the construction work of Route No. 67 a Hun period sacrificial caldron was found. The caldron was lying in the bottom of a 150 cm deep, circular pit, covered with sand, without any accompanying finds. The height of the virtually intact caldron is 60 cm (of which 45 cm is the height of the body), and the diameter of its bit deformed mouth is about 42 cm, its weight 22 kg. Notwithstanding the fracture noted on its side and the fragmentation of the sole, the caldron is intact, though smaller repairs can be noted. When found, on the outside and within its mouth smut marks could be seen. The vessel was hid rolled into a piece of textile, a small part of which has been preserved jammed in the fracture. It seems certain that it was cast in one piece, the cast seam observed at the elongation of the ribs placed between the loops shows the traces of a two KOCH, A. 1997. - Ein hunnischer Kessel aus Westchina. Within its inner side there is a strong rib underneath the rim, while the sole, built from two parts, was secured to the bottom later on by riveting. Its inner surface is otherwise entirely smooth. The casting took place from the bottom, and the trace of the lug can be seen on the rough surfaced, 19 cm diameter bottom of the vessel. The caldron belongs to the group of vessels of the MidDanube region, and is nearest related to the one found in the Kapos valley. We haven't found similar aged objects on the site, but within the scattered material there were two, similarly Hun period objects: a silver cicada and an iron cicada fibula in laid decoration. Similarly to the caldrons, the cicadas appeared at the Mid-Danube basin along with the migration connected with the Huns, and can be dated likewise to the mid. 5. Century.
