Fenyősi L. – Horváth Z. 2000: Adatok a fehér gólya (Ciconia ciconia) Somogy megyei állományához, az 1999. évi felmérés alapján.

347 Data on the population of Ciconia ciconia (White Stork) in Somogy county, Hungary, based on the 1999 survey LÁSZLÓ FENYŐSI - ZOLTÁN HORVÁTH The authors carried out a survey of the stork population across 80% of Somogy county. They visited some 200 settlements and they were able to record 421 nests in 166 of these. Their records include 62 abandoned nests and 359 nests which were occupied (HPm + HE); 586 nestlings were recorded in 237 nests (HPm). Allowing for the non-surveyed areas - where about 35 pairs might live - the stork population of Somogy county exceeds 400 pairs. Based on these figures, the density of the White Stork population (D) can be estimated to 6.5 - 6.7 pairs/100 km 2 . Comparing these results to those of former surveys, it is obvious that the current population of C. ciconia in Somogy county is much lower than, say, the 1950s. However, based on the results for 1994 - and this is also borne out over a smaller sampling area - the number of breeding pairs is on the increase.
