Somogyi Krisztina: előzetes jelentés a Kaposvár - 61-es út elkerülő szakasz 1. számú lelőhelyén végzett feltárásról
249 Preliminary report of the excavation of Site No. 1 situated on the encircling section of Road 61 around Kaposvár KRISZTINA SOMOGYI Site No. 1 is situated about 500 m east from the Corn Dehydrating Factory at Zarany-puszta, between Kaposvár and Toponár, on a hill rising on the right bank of the Deseda-stream. The trail followed a NW-SE direction from the marshes along the stream bank until the hilltop, and until the wooded strip on the other side. We excavated an area of 14770 m 2 and found 809 settlement traces from 9 different archaeological periods. The best represented and the biggest settlement section dates from the Middle Bronze Age, from the people of the Transdanubian Lime Incrusted Pottery Culture with about 170 objects and with a large number of ceramic finds, which is outstanding in number in the county as well. The second largest settlement structure dates from the Middle Ages (XIIXV. centuries); combining of 90 objects (free-standing furnaces, timber-framed houses with ovens). The third period is from the Middle Copper Age with around 50 objects, which is at present the biggest site of the Balaton-Lasinja culture in the county. The first copper find of the county, - a ring bent from a copper wire - was also found here. Beyond the pits of the Transdanubian Linear Culture of the Neolithic, as well as the Late Bronze Aged Urnfield Culture, we excavated 4-4 Celtic, and Roman-Age houses, an Avar period pit containing furnace fragments and dross, and 20 graves directed W-E or NW-SE, without any grave goods, from the Late Middle Ages (XVII. century). Beyond a few pits, we found a contracted burial with beads and pottery finds belonging to the period of the Pécel Culture (Late Copper Age). Another 5 contracted skeletons were lying near to each other without grave goods, presumably dating from the Neolithic or Copper Age period.
