- - /%£— rfy 6 ^"? From 1934 they finally settled in Somogytúr. In 1944, during the Jewish persecutions they were evicted, and Kunffy was taken to the Tab ghetto together with his wife. However, for his petition, he was given special permission, and they could travel to Budapest to their son. They could hide in an air-raid cellar during Budapest siege. 1000 pictures were robbed from his Somogytúr house. The next incidents were against his property, his estate was taken from him, but his private freedom was not violated. He could keep his house and studio due his reputation as artist. Later the new culture-policy accepted his art. His studio was made into a public art gallery in 1958. At his 90 he was given a National Award. In 1959 he was given the order of Work, in 1960 he was given the award of Artist of Merit. Kunffy died in the Kaposvár hospital on 12 th March 1962, at his 93. his gave can be found In Somogytúr, next to his studio. The Museum Memorial in its present form was established in 1979 organised by János Horváth. The artist's son, Dr ZOLTÁN KUNFFY (1902-1986) became an agricultural engineer graduating from the Hoch schule for Boden kulturt in Vienna. He managed the farming in Somogytúr (1918-1945) later he dealt with agricultural researches. He had no children. The siblings of the artists (Károly, József. Emma): Károly Kunffy (born 1867), an agricultural engineer, graduating from Halle Agricultural Faculty He became a very good engineer, leading his brother, Lajos 's farm 1915-1909. His own land was in Fácánkert, county Tolna until 1945. His children live in the USA. DR JÓZSEF KUNFFY, lawyer (1877-1927). He died at 50 due to an illness from the WWI. EMMA KUNFFY got married in 1894, in Kaposvár. Her son Antal was born in 1895.She lived in her parents' house at 9 Dózsa György Street. The family grave, marked with a coat-of-arms titled „Somogytúri" is in the Jewish Cemetery in Kaposvár. The coat of arms is: 3 David stars are on the left top on a crowned shield, with a Bourbon lily on the right top with a lion and wheat ears under them. 79
