Analysis - HEGEDŰS Zoltán: Metallography of some findings of Vasvár

This structure is characteristic of unsuitably heat treated cast irons. A question that needs to be answered is: Why did the structure change only at some sites and not throughout the total mass of the piece. The low sulphur content of the tested samples refers to melting performed with charcoal. The developed structure and the origin of the cast iron itself allows us to conclude to a melting procedure at a higher temperature (T = 1300 °C). The decomposition of the perlite initiated in sample V9a must have been a consequence of a short heat treatment above 730 °C, when changing of structure started only at those inhomogeneous sites which were enriched to a lesser degree.
