440 DUNÁNTÚLI DOLGOZATOK (A) TERMÉSZETTUDOMÁNYI SOROZAT 9. (1998) Contributions to data on the fish, amhibian and reptile fauna (Pisces, Amphibia, Reptilia) of river Dráva and adjacent areas József MAJER The present study conveys occurrence data of 48 fish, 9 amphibian and 8 reptile species from the areas adjacent to river Dráva. Out of the cca. 80 fish species living in Hungary, 56 had been previously shown to occur in the river Dráva, which number included references to literature data. Our paper contains data on 48 species the proof specimens of which were seen and individually identified. Out of these, unfortunately, it is only introduced species (e.g. brook trout Salvelinusfontinalis Mitchill 1815, gaining wider distribution in the Carpathian basin) that represent new items to our fauna. Up to now, the effect of introduced species has not become perceptible. Several of the sturgeon species included in earlier species lists have become extinct, which probably do not any longer live in the river Dráva. Our fish survey extended to the main current of the river, the system of branches with moving water in the flood area, drainage ditches on the protected side, brooks and other moving waters. The Hungarian section of the river Dráva exhibits almost all of the middle and lower reach characteristics of moving waters in the country, for which reason it includes a great variety of habitats, resulting in the high number of fish species. A general and complete work has not been published about the reptile fauna of the area. The Natrix natric var. persa variety of the grass snake is often encountered in the region of Vízvár, Zákány and Őrtilos. The Lacerta agilis var, rubra variety of the sand lizard is commonlly found around Vízvár, Bélavár, and the area of the Barcsi Borókás.
