The tachinid fauna of the Mecsek Mts. and its surroundings (Diptera: Tachinidae)

Tóth S.: A Mecsek, és környéke fürkészlégy faunája 127 Tachinid fauna of the Mecsek Mts. and its surroundings (Diptera: Tachinidae) In the Mecsek Mts. the faunistical survey on the Tachinid flies carried out by Ferenc Mihályi, László Móczár, Sebestyén Endrődy Younga and Antal Gebhardt started in 1957. The author of the present volume has continued the research of the Diptera fauna since the mid-1970s. Most of Tachinid flies were collected by the Malaise-traps and by netting. The studied area belongs to the Transdanubian Hills geographical region which is a typical hilly area in Hungary. The highest part of this area is the Mecsek Mts. (Zengő 682 m), somewhat lower is its surroundings, the Baranya Hills. The climate is moderately warm and humid since this area is strongly influenced by Sub-Mediterranean air currents. The history of the research of Tachinid flies, their lifestyle and their role in nature are summarized. The qualitative and quantitative structures of the fauna are also given. Distribution on UTM grid map and phenological diagram of several species are published. The faunistical chapter is followed by the bibliography, English summary and the taxon index. So far, 431 Tachinid flies were found in Hungary. The fauna was also rich in species in the Mecsek Mts. and its surroundings, 340 taxa were recorded which was 78.9% of the known Hungarian species. 14 species were rare not only in the Mecsek Mts. but also in Hungary, 3 species, Cleonice callida (Meigen, 1824), Gonia maculipennis Egger, 1862, Winthemia hohemani (Zetterstedt, 1844), were collected only in the Mecsek Mts. The manuscript was closed on 20^ December. The photographs were taken by the author. Author's address Sándor TÓTH H - 8420 Zirc Széchenyi u. 2. e-mail: flycatcher@vnet.hu
