MAGYARORSZÁG HANGYADARAZSAI - VELVET ANTS OF HUNGARY (MUTILLIDAE) 101 absent. Scutellar scale absent. Metasomal tergite 2 with felt lines. Pygidium present. Males with inner eye margin without notch. Ocelli small. Tegulae small, shiny, not reaching suture between mesonotum and scutellum. Pterostigma spindle-shaped, more or less sclerotised. Metasomal tergite 2 and sternite 2 with felt lines. Gonostylus long, apex strongly curved upward. Cystomutilla ANDRÉ, 1896 Female mesosoma narrowing both anterad and posterad. Flagellomere 1 as long as 2. Head globular. Metasomal tergites 1 and 2 with Pale transverse band on posterior margin. Entire surface of tergite 3 covered by pale setae. Male with flagellomere 1 shorter than 2. Postscutellum flat, with longitudinal process. Forewing with 2 cellula cubitalis and 2 cellula discoidalis. Pterostigma large. The genus includes one species in Europe that occurs in Hungary. 1 (2) Apterous forms, females. Clypeus with smooth area delimited by transverse carina. No tubercle behind base of antennae. Mandibles bidentate, becoming darker toward apex (Fig. 77). Metasomal segment 1 with small obtuse process at anterior margin on each side. Pygidium smooth, shiny, distinctly bordered. Head, mesosoma and first segments of antennae rusty red, antennae brownish toward apex, legs brownish red. Metasoma black, with very weak bluish metallic lustre. Head and upper parts of mesosoma with sparse erect black setae and appressed pale pubescence. Base of metasomal tergite 1 red, some white pubescence on posterior part in middle reclining to anterior part of tergite 2, almost forming a spot on it. Posterior part of tergite 2 and entire surface of tergite 3 with band of pale pubescence, band on tergite 2 not widening in middle. Posterior part of sternites with weak band of sparse pale pubescence. Quite small species (Fig. 196). 4-7 mm. Mediterranean species, which is very rare in Hungary (Fig. 29). So far only three female specimens have been found, no male specimen at all. It is a parasitoid of Crabro and Pemphredon species. Period of collection is unknown. Distribution: Albania, Austria, Croatia, France, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, as well as North-Africa (Algeria). Cystomutilla ruficeps (SMITH, 1855) 2 (1) Winged forms, males. Head not elongate behind eyes. Clypeus straight, anterior part with two denti­cles . Distance between posterior margin of eyes and posterior margin of head about 1.1 x longitudinal diameter of eyes. Mandibles bidentate, but subapical tooth very small, hardly visible (Fig. 78). Metasomal sternite 2 with anterior carina. Felt line of tergite 2 about 1.5x longer than that of sternite 2. Head and metasoma black, dorsal part of mesosoma rusty red, anterior part of prothorax brownish red. Antennae and legs brownish red, mandibles and ventral parts of mesosoma black. Posterior part of metasomal segments 2 and 4 with pale setae much denser on tergites than on sternites. Tergite 3 with sparse erect pale setae. Forewings transparent (Fig. 195). 6-12 mm.
