MAGYARORSZÁG HANGYADARAZSAI - VELVET ANTS OF HUNGARY (MUTILLIDAE) 101 2 (1) Winged forms, males. Unknown. Nemka LELEJ, 1985 Female mandible without tooth beneath apex. Pygidium rounded oval. Bell-shaped wrinkles of pygidium bent outward and downward from middle. Anterior part of meta­somal tergite 2 with spot of pale setae, posterior margin with band of pale setae produced triangularly forward in middle. Tergite 3 completely covered by pale pubescence. Male mandibles tridentate. Clypeus concave, with two large teeth at anterior margin. Volsella long, cuspis narrow, with more or less developed paracuspis at base covered by long setae. Metasoma black or chestnut brown, metasomal segment 2 of species orrcur­ring in Hungary almost entirely rusty red. The genus includes one species in Europe that occurs in Hungary. 1 (2) Apterous forms, females. Frons and vertex with conspicuous large, oval spot of dense, appressed pale setae. Clypeus convex, with short medial longitudinal carina. Flagellomere 1 is about 1.3x longer than 2, which somewhat shorter than 3 (Fig. 67). Mandibles long and pointed, without teeth beneath apex (Fig. 99), darkening toward apex. Mesosoma about 1.3x longer than wide at middle. Scutellar scale wide, nail-like. Metasomal tergite 2 with long felt lines. Pygidium with wrinkles running approx­imately parallel with lateral margins, but bent at base, bell-shaped (Fig. 132). Head and metasoma black. Colour of mesosoma varying from reddish brown to black; legs dark brown. Mesosoma covered by appressed reddish yellow setae and with sparse long erect black setae. Metasomal tergite 2 with spot of pale setae, and on posterior part a band of pale setae, which in middle elongates tri­angularly forward. Anterior part of metasomal tergite 2 with spot of pale setae, posterior margin with band of pale setae produced triangularly forward in middle. Tergite 3 completely covered by pale pubescence. Legs with sparse erect pale setae. Medium-sized species (Fig. 172). 6-12 mm. Mediterranean species with one subspecies each from Iberian Peninsula, Crete and Cyprus In Hungary it belongs to the commoner species (Fig. 14). It was found in greater numbers in dry sandy areas of the Great Hungarian Plain and Transdanubia. It is a parasitoid of Larra, Gorytes and Dasypoda species. Known period of collection: 29. V-2. X. Distribution: Albania, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Ukraine, as well as Kazakhstan, Mongolia and the Near and Middle East (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Turkey and Syria). Nemka viduata (PALLAS, 1773) 2 (1) Winged forms, males. Clypeus strongly concave. Anterior part of clypeus with two tooth-like process in middle. Mandibles tridentate, with strong, obtuse protrusion at middle of outer side (Fig. 101). Flagellomere 2 more than twice as long as 1, and somewhat longer than 3 (Fig. 68). Tegulae short, not surpassing scuto-scutellar suture (Fig. 41). Posterior surface of propodeum gently sloping. Length of metasomal seg­ment 1 greater than maximum width. Sternite 1 with medial longitudinal carina.
