Trapping data from 4 small mammal monitoring programmes performed in altogether 13 different habitats were processed. Sampling was done as a capture-mark-recapture procedure (=CMR) in all cases. Possible changes in the dispersal dynamics of the striped field mouse were studied in various forest and open mosaic habitats, in periods characterised with highly varying weather parameters, to test the effect of habitat as well as weather. Movement patterns, as determined from capture-mark-recapture data, were described with three parameters: migráción index (1), distance moved by recaptured individuals (2), and dispersal distance measured from the edge of the habitat (3). Parameters describing dispersal patterns differed significantly among the tested habitats only in the first, drier period. Our hypothesis i.e. the movement dynamics of the striped field mouse differ between habitats with different vegetation cover, was thus confirmed only for the first period. Values of dispersal distance recorded in the first period were highest in the mosaic grassland habitat. Data from the cooler and wetter period supported the alternative hypothesis i.e. there is no statistical difference between the habitats in their parameters of mouse dispersal movements. Our investigations showed that the balanced dispersal pattern obtained for the second period was possibly caused by changes in weather and the resulting overall regeneration of the habitat.
